In search of Homes from Home in Bali

The final world culture I will experience is the Indonesian island of Bali. One place on my list that I hope to visit is Tenganan which is the oldest traditional Balinese village, and still operates as a communal society that holds fast to its traditions and rules of ancient Balinese culture, like house design and religious ritual ceremony. It is meant to be difficult to get to, but could be worth the effort as it is as if time has stood still for 700 years; it is apparently like walking around a 'living museum' (a bit like St Fagans Museum of Welsh life that we visited on our Cardiff trip except for real). Anyhow, be assured that I will have my camera at the ready to record the various homes and wonderful arts and crafts that I see there to share with you.

I'm going Japanese soon

Tea for Two?

One of the most hospitable gestures when welcoming someone to your home, is to offer them a nice cup of tea. In Kyoto, I have booked to experience the Japanese tea ceremony to see how this ancient tradition is carried out - should be fascinating!

Thoughts about my holiday-to-be

Could this be my new best friend when I make my home in Australia for
a while in July, on the second leg of my tour? Watch this space!
